Students who are selected as Colloquium Fellows will enjoy a unique opportunity to participate in discussions with leading scholars and practitioners concerning cutting-edge topics in the areas of intellectual property law and cyberspace law.
The Colloquium offers a new opportunity to students to advance their understanding of intellectual property law in a forum that brings together all of Chicago’s educational and professional communities and that goes beyond traditional classroom-based learning. This is an exceptional opportunity for any student interested in obtaining a greater depth of knowledge concerning these areas or in participating in the development of intellectual property scholarship.
To facilitate an engaged dialogue among students, other colloquium participants, and invited scholars, the Colloquium faculty from Chicago-Kent and Loyola will lead Colloquium Fellows in discussion of background materials during the week prior to each formal presentation by and invited scholar.
These “pre-presentation” sessions will provide Colloquium Fellows with the benefit of faculty guidance in developing expertise in new areas of the law, as well as developing skills necessary to actively critique scholarship.
All J.D. students who have completed at least one full year at Chicago-Kent or Loyola by Fall 2020 are eligible; in other words, 2Ls, 3Ls, and 4Ls are eligible. Students pursuing LL.M. degrees are not eligible unless advance permission is granted by the professor at the respective school.
One hour of ungraded (Pass/Fail) credit will be awarded to Fellows.
Number of Fellowships
Up to 8 Fellows will be chosen from each participating law school.
Fellows are expected to attend and be fully prepared for each of the Colloquium sessions as well as the pre-presentation sessions. Participation at these sessions is mandatory.
